The Shield is cracking, crumbling, and breaking.
Set before the people to defend them
Not a thing, but a man; his smile faking
Not a hero, but someone to condemn
Condemn to protection of those he loves
Condemn to watch while they find that something
Use him as a tool, to avoid life's shoves
To find the special thing in life, they cling
Beaten down and rendered hopeless, he cries
But then The Light appears and dries his tears
Makes his heart flutter, inspires him to fly
Lifts him up to his feet, and steals his fear
Reminds him his task is noble and good
Shows again he is not alone in pain
The Light is a woman, he understood
A friend who needs him, to him she explains
She helped to patch him up as best she could
Stood him on his feet, put back to the grind
Asked him to stand by her, guard her, he would
He said yes, would not leave her, she did find
But The Shield is not fixed, or even repaired
He stands on last breath, defeated, in pain
Hides it from her, lest she is to despair
Loves her, guides her, hoping it's not in vain

There's something satisfying about shooting something in the face with a rocket. And then watching it melt from the acid that the rocket contained. God. Bless. Borderlands.
They can't break me
As long as I know who I am

Also, on a side note, that was the fastest anything I have ever submitted has been commented/favorited. O.o I was mildly startled.

Yeah, I look at the newest deviations. Yours jumped out at me, and I liked it. So I added it to my favorites and commented.
